Preparation for Licensure and Transition to Professional Practice
I used my individual profiles for each ATI assessment to improve outcomes by testing slower and reading more thoroughly through the questions and answers. I would make sure to go through the question several times if I did not understand it at first. I did not change my testing environment too much, just made sure I was in my own quiet space each time.
ATI assessments allowed me to see where my knowledge deficits lied. In my pediatrics classes I made sure to review content similar to items that I got wrong on the ATI. I would review information in the ATI resources that pertain to practice. For example if there was a situation that Ive seen performed in practice and thought it different from what the answer to a question was I made sure to look in the resources to ensure that it was evidence based. I have made sure to take advantage of any ATI retakes available to ensure that I am getting all of the practice that is offered.
Self care quality has actually decreased as the semester went on and as I got closer to graduation due to the intensity of the job search, finding a job, getting together all of my requirements for NCLEX, putting together all of the requirements for the job, finding a new apartment in a state I have never lived in, all on top of finishing out nursing school. The ATI assignments have proven very time consuming but I know they will be worth it when I am preparing this summer before the test. My best effort for self care was to move my body as many times as I could per week, was not as much as last semester. Another strategy included planning a vacation for spring break with my best friends and girlfriend to hike and ski which are two activities that alleviate my stress and I really enjoy.
I have learned that ATI is a very useful tool for NCLEX preparation and will use it as my practice software for this summer, primarily using the CAT system. I will use the CATs to practice answering questions. Another thing I learned is to always read through the rationales to questions, even if the rationale is to an answer that you did not select and isnt the answer as there is material to learn there.
