Peer revision applied to Sociology song analysis paper

Peer revision applied to Sociology song analysis paper

In sociology class we were assigned a song analysis paper. In this analysis we were asked to analyze a song through the lens of a sociologist, picking out the sociological terms and how they apply within the context. For example we would find a reference to race in the song and explain how it was a reference to race and the sociological connotations associated with that concept. I peer reviewed a classmates paper by first reading their song, then reading their paper. I would check their paper by first making sure that they didn’t miss explaining any sociological references to the song in their paper. I discovered a few references that my classmate did not see, so I added a suggestion within the margin underlining a portion of the song that could be further analyzed in order to reflect an overall better, more complete product for a paper. After seeing if they missed any references, I checked to make sure that their ideas and explanations of the sociology made sense to me and was correct. All of the connections they made were correct, so I moved on to ensuring that their spelling and grammar was correct. No grammatical errors hindered the readers understanding of the paper, so I allowed my partner to take the same steps with my paper. She found areas on which I could improve, as well as references that I missed in my song. Without being nudged towards finding those extra references within my song, I may not have done as well as I have wanted to on this assignment.
